Under heavy tree cover a gutter can go from clear to blocked in a single autumn. Once the outlet plugs, the run overtops in the next downpour and water starts hitting the wall, so the property is effectively unprotected for most of the wet season even though it was cleaned that year.

Where guards earn their money

The clearest case is a run directly beneath overhanging branches, sycamore, lime, birch and conifers are the usual culprits around Whitefield, Worsley and Prestwich. Those runs can fill in weeks, so keeping the bulk out at the top is worth far more than another clean.
